Is it hard to start a van courier service?

I am looking to start a courier service either in ny or la. Possibly buy vans or maybe even hire private contractors.eventually i wanna go back to college and have people work under me i just manage it Does anyone know what it takes to start a courier service and is it fairly easy. Is it a good idea anyone with experience?

Like starting any business in the U.S. if your not going into it all the way then its hard because there are others who are. Right now there are so many people offering this service for much less than most people will. I just got out of the business and many of my colleagues also stopped. The biggest issue is the demand. But if you see there is a ton of demand and you can get some good prices then go for it! Its a really cut throat business. Good luck!! Go to your local airport and ask what the prices are, or check other companies pricing. Allow me to correct myself getting a good customer base is probably the biggest challenge you will face. I do recommend sending out flyers to homes. That was effective for me.

Buy as many vans as you can afford but don't spend so much that you don't have any reserves. Hiring drivers in this economy will be easy. Contact businesses and offer the first 3 deliveries for free. That will get you noticed but drain your funds. It is a money-making business.
