How do you make a web page for customers to make appointments?

My friend is building a website for his salon and he wants to be able to direct customers to his website to make appointments. Is there a pre-installed program on Mac he would be able to use? I noticed a free program for Macs called Mac OS X Mail but I'm not sure if it can make appointments online like Microsoft Outlook.

I've used GenBook in the past and it works well. It was free when I used it. Looks like they've started charging. But you might like to check it out anyway.
