I want to start a website.

I want to start a website! Am I too young? Copyright and other stuff?

  • Hi I am a 16 year old girl. I really want to start up a website (or blog) on Bollywood I'm planning to include reviews of movies, pics, scenes, fast facts about the movies, songs, top ten movies, top ten songs, Indian News, a personal opinion pages, where people can write about their own views and perspective on US and Indian News... and maybe even stuff about Indian drama... Should I include my name on the site. I don't want to put my address and stuff, maybe just my name at most. This is something I feel I would be very passionate about and willing to put a lot of time and effort in to. Can I include this in to college resume - starting a website and describe about my opinion pages and interest in Indian culture ( even tho I am of Indian descent my self)? I have a lot of interest in Bollywood - I watch at most up to 4-5 films in a week. I watch the news a lot and enjoy giving my views on certain news stories. I want to hopefully sell shirts with some of my drawings in the future. IF you have started your own website, do you have any tips? BTW, am I too young to be doing this? Also, how can i catch the attention of my viewers? I'm thinking my youtube page, facebook... Thanks for your responses!

A lot of questions but I'll try to answer them all. You're not too young, but you're too young to get paid through AdSense if that's what you're looking for. I personally don't care if my full name is on any web sites or anything but you should at least put your first name or a nickname. If it's a good website, I'm sure you can put it on a college resume, especially if you want that kind of work. I have a YouTube page to promote my web site and a Twitter page to accompany it. I personally use BlogSpot for my site and CafePress for merchandise but if you know how to self distribute great. Hope I helped.

Yes, if that is what you want to do then starting at 16 is a great idea. I am working with my 14 year old daughter to setup another website for her. If you will be blogging I would suggest checking out services like wordpress.com that host your blog or if you want to buy your own domain and hosting, which can be done cheap, you can get the hosted version of wordpress.org. You can get a domain name for around $10 a year and hosting around $6 a month from Godaddy.com or other similar sites. Good luck.

Yes. It's good experience. As a techie, let me tell you what's hard. Setting up a good enough, eye candy-ish, website that people are going to want to visit over the others. You have to be profiencient at web programming and writing editorials too. Most major websites have an entire staff dedicated to it's content, not just one person. That's a lot of skills for one person, but good luck.
