Do you have to create a business plan before starting the actual business?

Starting up my own business. Help?

  • Hey im 16 yrs old & ive always aspired to become and entrepreneur & ive thought up a brilliant unique product that supermarkets could use, ive starting writing up a business plan & im gonna get a loan from the bank but my problem is with manufacturing the product, it's not that complex to create but i don't know which manufacturing company to go with. Does anyone have any idea, links, contacts or websites to good, cheap, reliable manufacturing companies who could help in that, that are based in London. And also how much does it cost to get a patent & is it a long hard process, and also another thing, is it better for me to get the manufacturers to sign a contract stating that they can't disclose any info on the product to anyone, im really wear and scared of someone stealing my idea. Sorry for rambling on, any help i can get would be really helpful and much appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, the Business Link/Gateway. Also, do check out British inventor Trevor Bayliss's website for comprehensive advice. PS: Do *not* contact those spam emails below. Any legitimate and sizeable business, as they claim (same person I bet!) would not use webmail, but instead their own 'static' email address.

Good for you BUT at 16 you are a minor and cannot sign any kind of contract with anyone. You are not going to get a loan from the Bank because you are only 16, no matter how good an idea you have. In the UK banks are not lending to existing businessess let alone new ones. I suggest you talk to someone at BuisnessLink. In the meantime your parents are going to have do any legal work that is required. Good Luck.
