Please help on starting on my own buisness/restaurant? What would you advise me? What do you think works?

Try and see if you can buy a restaurant that has just closed and buy that with all of the equipment. It will save u on the cost of all of your start up cost and will help make sure you are with in code for the building (very hard to do when converting a building into a restaurant. If you can make the food cheap but quality it will be a success. I live next to a place that has $4 dollar home made breakfast (eggs, toast, bacon and coffee) and it is always packed.

The best thing to do is visit other African restaurants and see if you can get the owners to give you some advice. I know there are plenty of African restaurants in DC and Philidelphia. I went to one once and it was chicken and we also had homemade Tamarind drinks. It can be very hard to get a restaurant going in the US because of health codes and other laws. You may have to get into a long lease also. Sad to say but it is a very hard business to get into and you can lose a lot of money even when you have good food and do everything right. You should have at least $30,000 saved before you even think about it an be able to lose the money if it doesn't work out.

We had a Soul food restaurant here that had southern food as you described with cornbread, biscuits, sweet tea, etc. They did not last long. It is very expensive to open a restaurant and only a 10% chance it will stay open a year. Especially right now when people are pinching pennies. See iF you can find a restaurant that is similar and struggling and go in with them with your dishes and see how it goes?
