How much money does eBay take off you when you sell something?

I'm trying to sell stuff on ebay?

  • Well, my mom has agreed to let me use Ebay, so now my goal is to make 150 bucks. I have things like used childrens books, clothing, comforters, stuffed animals, and miscellaneous stuff like art supplies, make up bags, purses, shoes, and maybe even my macintosh, but I'm not sure if I want to sell that yet. I'm aware that no one usually buys things like stuffed animals on ebay.. and I'm trying to earn this money as quickly as possible, so how long would it usually take for someone to actually sell something on ebay (something unusual, that is)

I agree with Shanna that 7 day auctions are the best, you need time to attract visitors. As far as how fast things will sell is always hard to predict. You could do a little research within the "Completed listings" on similar items to see if they sold and for how much. That will give you an idea as to the possible price range you might get for it, or if they sold at all. The best thing about Ebay is that you never know what is going to sell. Also, just because it did not sell the first time out does not mean it will never sell. Just like anything else, you need the right buyer to come along. Keep in mind too, that you will have some costs involved with anything you sell. Ebay has insertion fees, unless you start everything under $1, and final value fees. If you use Paypal, it also has a fee it takes when you receive any money in your paypal account. Good luck on your auctions!

Once your stuff is in pretty good condition, it should sell for you. I usually list my stuff in 7-day auctions, and 80% of the stuff would sell within those 7 days. Sometimes I have to relist, but then they sell the second time. Kid's clothes, bags and books have been most successful for me, I guess because they're fairly cheap to post. Stick everything up there, the more you have, the more chance you have of getting rid of it. Good luck!
