Which direct sales companies are best to start working with?
-
I am considering trying to make some extra income working for a direct sales company, such as Avon. Out of the list I have here, which companies are worth looking into, and which ones should I stay away from? AtHome America Avon Tupperware Mary Kay Celebrating Home PartyLite Tastefully Simple Lia Sophia The Body Shop at Home The Pampered Chef Tealightful Treasures Daisy Blue Naturals Which ones have large start-up fees, and which ones are more affordable? Which are the most fun, and which ones are more stress than they are worth? Are there others not on this list that you would recommend I look into? I'm willing to work hard, but I don't want to start something that will eventually cause me to lose more money than I earn. Any feedback is welcome and appreciated!

If you like to cook or hate to cook, you probably have to cook. And, so does most everyone else these days! At The Pampered Chef we are helping people by showing them how to save Time and Money by cooking at home. Recipes are provided by the company and are less than $2 per serving and less than 30 minutes to prepare! We have a starter kit worth $550 and the cost to start with this is only $155. If you can't do that, we also have a mini kit which is a $200 value and recipes that can be done with that kit as well. We have a bonus program in the 1st 90 days and right now, through August, we have a promotion in addition to this. With the promotion and the 90 day bonus period, I can help you earn over $1000 in product and commission in the 1st 30 days!!! (yes, I mean 30 days!) Do you have a preference to any product? What you have a passion for is definitely one way to make your decision. However you aren't buying, you are trying to make money. Do you know if your family, friends, coworkers etc like one over the other? Is anyone you know already selling either of them? Does someone already sell at your job? You need to try and figure out the answers to those questions and that will help you with your decision. Are you a party person? Some of those direct sales companies require parties if you want to do well. If you want to go out to do a party after working all day at your present job then by all means pick one of those. I tried selling At Home America and Pampered chef and I found finding people to host the party was hard enough but then when hardly anyone showed up, it was such a let down and waste of time. I picked Avon because its absolutely not necessary but yet you can still opt to do parties if you want to. Avon is a consumable products and therefore needs to be replaced which means repeat sales. Tupperware and Pampered Chef are great products but once you buy so many pans or containers you don't usually need to replenish them for a long time. I started selling Avon for the discount. I figured if it didn't work out, I would quit after the 50% discounts ended. I found it an easy sell and 2+ yrs later, I'm still selling and loving it. That's my thoughts and personal opinion on the subject :) Avon only costs $10 to join locally or $20 to join online. The difference in the price is the shipping of the kit to your home. You get 10 brochures for each of your first 2 campaigns. You do have to pay for the brochures each campaign but that's all you really need to purchase. The brochure is your store and the more you buy the less they cost. Business expenses are a necessary evil but are tax deductible including mileage traveled for business reasons. Other companies have higher start up costs because you need items to demonstrate with and are required to purchase them to begin whether its something you want or not. You get a 50% commission in your first 4 consecutive campaigns on Avon products and 20% on items made by other companies. After that its based on sales as seen below. My personal sales average about $400 per campaign which gives me a 40% commission. $1550 or more 50% $900 - $1549 45% $425 - $899 40% $285 - $424 35% $145 - $284 30% $25 - $144 20% $00 - $24 0% The average customer order is $25....I find my average order is usually a little higher. However taking $25 as an average at 40% commission you earn about $10 a customer. If you sell to 20 customers you would make $200 per campaign. Now if some of those sales are in the 20% commission you would make a little less. Avon does not require you to stock inventory and I highly recommend you don't. I've been selling for quite some time and still can't predict what my customers will want to buy and when. As with any job, if you don't show up or you don't do the work you won't get paid. If you don't work your Avon business and put in the time needed to find new customers and build your business you arent going to make any money either. If you opened a bakery and ate all the merchandise you won't make any money because you have nothing to sell. Likewise if you spend all the money you make on your own personal Avon products you won't see a profit either. You want to batch your deliveries to save time and gas. Organize them so you deliver it all to one area in one trip. Give any customers who live to far to deliver a free shipping code out of the web office. Be sure to submit your order on time, make the payments when due and only submit one order per campaign. As long as you keep to the schedule and do things properly you won't get charged the extra fee's and lose your profits. I have seen people not do the above and wonder why they didnt make money. Avon is a well known name and has quality products at affordable prices. However you do need to put time in finding the people who love it. They are out there. I started selling Avon for the discount. I figured if it didn't work out, I would quit after the 50% discounts ended. I found it an easy sell and 2+ yrs later, I'm still selling and loving it. That's my thoughts and personal opinion on the subject :)
