Where would the greatest demand for administration be?

Is there a bussines administration guru out there? are bussiness administrators still in demand? few questions?

  • Hi… I just returned to school so start a 2 year bachelor completion program in bossiness administration. I have a few questions: 1. Would I have the skills to start my own business? 2. Are bossiness administrators in demand? 3. How much experience would I need? 4. Should I look toward getting an internship? 5. Any tips? Any suggestions?

  • Answer:

Generically, 2yr degrees are not really in much demand. They can give you a leg up in some situations, but mostly at the lower end of things. A BBA (4 year) degree from a top (100) business school is a highly desirable thing, as is an MBA from a top school. They are not exactly a requirement for middle and upper management, but they are pretty close. If you want to work in management at a major firm, one or the other is a necessity. (1) No. A degree is not a necessity...in fact many very successful entrepreneurial types are college drop outs or only have their hs diploma. If you want to be your own boss, it is a better use of your time to pursue your passions and get experience in the real world. Take classes that interest you or can help you learn specific skills or knowledge as you need it. (2) No. 4 year degrees have concentrations: Management, Finance, Accounting, Marketing, IT, and economics, usually. These are always in some demand, depending on the industry and the company. Accounting & Finance degrees are the most constantly in demand -- esp. from fully accredited national programs. (3) With a 4 year degree, none. With a 2 year degree, probably 1-3 years for entry level work. (4) Yes. Excellent idea. (5) Look around. See anybody who is doing what you want to do? Anyone doing something that really interests you, even if it is more of a "right now" kind of thing? If so, go talk to them. Offer to help out, volenteer, intern.... Most people like to be admired...they like to give advice. A good mentor (or two) is worth vastly more than your average degree.
