How do you trade mark a name of a business?

How do I trade mark a name and then sell it?

  • Answer:

You can't. You can only trademark a mark that you use in trade, which is a way of saying: you need to run a bakery with that trademark and register the trademark before you can sue another bakery with the same name. Just registering the trademark won't get you anything.

You can do it through the US Trademark office, or pay someone to do it for you. The place that comes to mind for me is LegalZoom.com I think it costs between 150 and 200 dollars for the service. That's a lot to pay to trademark a name and resell it. But anyway, good luck!
