How do I find grants for disabled housing?

State grants to start a housing business?

  • Last week my dad told me that one of her niece's got a million dollar grant from the government to start a housing business, he explained that with that money she built apartments and she lives from that. Today i started doing some research and found out that it was true but i read more information and found out that its hard to get a grant from the federal government but the feds give money to states to give in grants (correct me if i am wrong). So i was wondering where to find more information, and how to go about it? i was thinking of starting a business in the housing field and provide housing for low income families and expand every year by building more apartments to rent, and perhaps maybe reach one hundred apartments, which i think that will create jobs in the construction industry and also create maintenance jobs in the long run, like lawn maintenance, electrical maintenance, private security, and exterior home maintenance, secretaries, managers, collectors etc. etc. any thoughts?

I seriously doubt you heard correctly, or that you read that correctly. Although it is true that some cities, towns, and states, have community development programs, where they are willing to either lend money to businesses that normally wouldn't qualify, or give SOME grant money to businesses if they are in certain industries or create jobs in certain locations, your story just doesn't make sense. Here is why I know you're wrong: 1) They don't hand out a million dollars on the local level (state or local government grants). 2) The grant money is usually for job creation in poor areas, NOT for real estate. 3) They DO NOT give money to start-ups, you would have to already be in business and making money. If they wrote a check for a million dollars, wouldn't everyone have a business?
