How do eBay stores work?

Where are the Ebay Store Owners Moving To?

  • Over the last year, I have noticed that many Small Businesses owners who had stores have left because of Ebay's increasingly high overhead charges and policies that only make it harder on sellers. Presently, Ebay charges $15.95/mo for a basic store, charges at least 3 cents for listing each item every month; takes 12% of the cost of each item's selling cost up to $25.00, and 8% of the cost over that amount. Sellers are no forced to only offer Pay pal, Pay Pal's credit card; and personal credit cards as forms of payment, unless the item is picked up directly from the seller. Personal credit cards payment transactions have to be taken care of outside of Ebay. Customers have 2 separate ways of leaving feedback for sellers. This feedback can be anything from Negative to Positive in one pace: and a rating of 1-5 in a second area. Sellers are only allowed to leave positive feedback for sellers. The small businesses are hurting badly. Ebay seems to have turned against everything they originally stood for. Many of my customers will no longer buy through my ebay store. The situation has gotten very hard for the seller. If you have left ebay, where are you selling now? If you have any suggestions to share with others, they would be greatly appreciated. If you have any suggestions as to how ebay store owners or former store owners can work together, to help each other, they will be appreciated.

  • Answer:

I completely agree with all of the above stated problems with Ebay. They no longer are pro small business. with all the changes they were sucking the blood out of me in fees. So I have been forced to leave Ebay, and Build my own site with Yahoo Stores now as my web host . Its a flat fee per month, an eighth of what ebay was charging me in fees... But I am stuck now with how to generate the traffic I need to survive. I am new at this so I am kind of lost with how to get people to my site. I dont have the funds to pay a company to direct market my site, or even help promote it. Its all on my back, and very very frustrating. My site is below and I recommend Yahoo as a webhost , the prices are very reasonable for what they offer.
