How much would it cost to start a bar and grill restaurant?

What's a good estimate for the average cost of operating an 8,500 square foot bar and grill?

  • I'm doing a "build your own restaurant" project for my high school culinary class, and I'm having difficulty finding information like this. The restaurant I've chosen to "buy" is 8,500 square feet (1/2 of which is patio space), and I need to know things like the costs of electrical, water, gas, and any other expense of the like. The restaurant is in Arizona, and it's a bar/grill. Thank you to anyone who can help!

    There was a show on tv about restaurant renovations. (can't remember the name) But they take a restaurant and re-do the entire thing. I remember the guy asking how much in the hole you are a month. The guy said $10,000 So this means he was spending more than 10 grand a month since he had to be making at least a bit of profit of somekind. I know it's a bad answer - just in case you don't get another one.

Mid West area (K.C.) going rate for a quality minded builder is $100-$150. There are those who do it for $100 and less but I wouldn't sell those homes to my worst enemy. This does not include the cost of the plot or initial sewage and water lines. Good Luck
