How much should I charge my neighbours?
-
So, I have decided that I want to start my own Tutor Centre kind of thing. It will be simple tutoring service for children in my neighbourhood. But I am stuck, and I don't know how much to charge them. I am just thinking of doing like 3 hours sessions, twice a week, thursday and saturday. And I was thinking of charging: $10.00/hr OR $25.00 for the full three hour session. HELP! Do you think that is reasonably priced? If not what are your suggestions? I am a nursing student; I don't have any certificate or anything like that. I have been working at an after school program for about three years. I am great with kid. I had to leave that centre because it was very far for me. That centre was more about looking after children until their parents could pick them up. But while they are there, some staff would help younger students (grade 4-8) with difficulties they are having (All the staffs there where high-school and post secondary students and those who got to tutor were pre-chosen according to their grades). I was one of the staff who helped with homework, school work, or extra help in reading, writing, math, and science.

Answer:
Oh its definitely reasonable, I would suggest you starting of free (maybe for like 2 months) or have extremly low prices(7/hour to start), but then once you get a reputation you can make like 20-30 bucks an hour of new people. also if you live in new england...you could most likely make more then if u lived in the midwest.

Don't think of your neighbors as neighbors when it comes to how much you should charge them. Think of them strictly as clients. The best thing to do, is to investigate what others are charging in your area for the same service. If a complete stranger was to show up at your door and ask for the same services, would you feel that your pricing was unreasonable? This is your time and its worth as much as you feel it is. If you sell yourself short, others will too. If the lessons are worth it, I think it is reasonably priced. Especially if that is the difference between my child getting an A or a C.

Sometimes it helps to know what others charge for the service. Try calling some places near you (pretend to be a parent) and see if they will quote you a price. Obviously you don't have to charge what they are, you can charge less, but it will give you an idea of where to start.

I would charge by the hour per client. 1 hour minimum. What credentials do you have?
