Is dropshipping ethical?

Dropshipping on ebay Question?

  • what i mean is like, if i want something, couldn't i buy 25 of that item, keep one and sell the rest? that way i get the little price. also, a dropship means when you are putting items that the dropship has in their stock and you advertise them on ebay then if someone buys it you tell the dropship to send it to them and you pay them the small price they want and get the profit of what you sold it for. is there a way to buy it for yourself at that price?

  • Answer:

The bottom line is that most items can be bought on eBay for less than they can from a dropshipper. eBay is a low-ball marketplace and you have many sellers who will sell the item at a bare minimum profit. With dropshipping, the price usually is 25 - 35% more than wholesale. So, often you can buy a product on eBay (from someone who used a real wholesale supplier) for less. This is why there are so many complaints on the web that dropshippers do not offer "real wholesale price" and that you can find the price for less on eBay than you can at the dropshipper. As for buying a quantity of the item, keeping one for yourself and selling the remainder off on eBay; you can of course do this! However, be sure you have a good source and that the product you're investing your money into will sell on eBay. You could end up with 12 MP3 players when you only needed one. So, saving $15 will not help.

Probably because a legitimate wholesaler who drop ships shouldn't be selling to the public. If you find something you want and you are allowed to buy it as a regular consumer you've probably been had by a middleman posing as a wholesaler anyway. Its kind of like buying stuff they sell at wall mart for the price they pay for it from their distributors it isn't that easy. A consumer should not be able to buy something for wholesale price without a license. All stores would be out of business if you could buy direct.

Maybe because some people might not know what dropshipping is & they only buy of eBay because there are prices that are 20% cheaper than high street prices or they might have busy lifes and only can buy on eBay instead of searching for a dropshipper or a wholesaler.....

Because a fake drop ship site will sell you the product...you think they are a drop ship site but they just are selling to you at retail and have "wholesale" in the name of their URL, etc. You can buy from a wholesale supplier for yourself...but....if they are a real wholesale supplier you must 1- have a reseller ID or Tax ID to show you are a valid business and 2- create your account and be approved by that wholesaler to be able to order from them. To prevent some people from doing this for one or two products some wholesalers only work with business with a valid track record or trade references....others require a deposit for future orders and others also offer more intro level prices and only after your order volume pics up do you get access to the larger price discounts. Last...some people selling on ebay sell the products at a loss to build up a client base...so you can sometimes find products with little or any mark up at ebay if they are sold by a merchant focusing on getting in an initial group of customers for their site rather then only focusing on margin. You can find wholesale sources at Inventory Source and other sites.
