What is a good organization to donate to for mentally handicapped people?

I would like to donate time or canned goods to an organization that helps people in need.?

  • Answer:

If you aren't sure where to look for food pantries in your area you can try contacting the local United Way office. The United Way works with many organizations by providing support and volunteers. If you let them know that you want to be a volunteer, they can help facilitate that as well. Our local United Way has a help line (211) that someone can call to get information about all the services that are available locally. You might want to check with the United Way that serves your area to see if they also offer this type of resource.

Melissa, I was once in need, (1993 midwest floods)! The organization that helped us the most was, The American Red Cross: I said it then and will probably say it for life: They saved our lives, if anyone is up in the air on where to give donations or help of any kind? I strongly recommend.... THE AMERICAN RED CROSS!

Most communities have a local food bank. If you haven't seen any advertisements for yours in the local paper, then the best way to find out details would be at your church. Just call the church office and ask them what local charity most needs your help. I'm sure they'll be glad to recommend several!

Just look in the phone book under "food pantry" or check with your local town/city hall. I'm sure they can refer you.
