Best way to sell on eBay?

What is the best way to sell your old stuff? Ebay, Craigslist, something else? tell us what youve come to love?

  • Garage sales dont have many people looking at your stuff and are a little bit of work, but there's no fees. Ebay is "easier" but you pay for every other little thing used to advertise your product, and you have to ship it. And Craigslist you have to meet somewhere arrange meeting times and places (possibly far away)... What is the overall best way to sell your stuff (in your opinion), with the least amount of difficulty and highest profit? Are there any new ways out there that people dont know about? Post your selling savvy tips here and help americans save time and money during the time when we need it most.

  • Answer:

If you like privacy but don't mind shipping then use eBay. If you aren't afraid of meeting strangers then use Craigslist. I like using craiglist because there aren't fees, and I'm a big guy so I don't worry about the strangers.

EBay bites. I prefer freecycle and craig's list. Just set a time and meet at the end of the block or at a McDonalds or the mall. If they don't show, it's their loss.

a few years ago I sold some things on Ebay. You have to have pictures of the stuff. You can upload them. I can't remember everything I did but you have to make the Ebay account first. And then a paypal account. People like to pay with paypal but I also had someone mail me a check. After you upload the photos and do a description of the item then you set the bidding price and how long you want it up for auction. The problem is this, V -- if you don't sell it then you owe Ebay money. They take a small percentage anyway of what you sell. Don't ask me how much -- I'm not 100% sure, but it's a small amount. I had some art work up once and a pretty jacket that never sold and next thing you know there's a withdrawal from my checking account from paypal for the Ebay service. I was not happy but those were the terms. I didn't realize it! I've also never been really super clear on postage but I know they want you to take the item to the post office or UPS and get it weighed and find out how much it will cost so you can let them know what the postage is. For my items I just charged like $5 shipping and handling. I guessed, but they were small items that didn't weigh very much. So setting it up is the easy part but I thought the shipping was scarey.
