What is a good name for an online home biz?

Do you tend to doubt the credibility of a company whose domain name ends in .biz or .us?

  • I am running a small business out of my home (for now) and the .com version of the name is taken, by an insignificant company on the other side of the country, so that isn't really a problem, but I don't know what the second best domain would be. Do you think using .biz or .us casts a pall of shadiness or untrustworthiness on a company?

  • Answer:

I don't think they cast a pall of shadiness or untrustworthiness on a company but dot com's are by far the most recognizable and branded. Overstock.co just spent millions of dollars on marketing their new .co name and it failed miserably. I would definitely change my domain name if I couldn't get the dot com version. Greg

Hi, you can try to choose a domain name like this: your-domain.com (with a slash) or you can try .Co which what people commonly use to replace .Com. .Biz is Ok too, you can use .US if you are only targeting to sell on US and not internationally (what if your business expands in the future?). I prefer .Co or .Biz.

I don't see that any of those domain endings suggest shadiness or untrustworthiness since we all who work on the computer know that they ran out of com names. Sometimes the best way is to use your own name when trying to get a com and not everyone in business has your name.
