I want to start an online business, what is the best website building software and domain host?
-
I want to start a member website, on a small local scale to start and see if it goes anywhere. I want the members to have a profile of some sort that is maintained by the company, not the member. I want the members to be able to search profiles, and then request contact via the admin - at which point the admin will contact the other member to see if contact is mutually desired. Any ideas about domain hosts, website building software, membership management software and merchant services for this? Feel free to share additional ideas, if you choose.

Answer:
WordPress is the way to go. There are thousands of themes and plugins to do what ever you want, search engines love WP sites. I use the S2membership plugin, (free version) to run my membership sites. I just use a commercial merchant account and paypal, never had a problem. When I need a shopping cart I use "Open Cart"(free open source shopping cart, steep learning curve) or Romancart.com (costs monthly but is EASY) If you want build in HTML, I suggest Web Page Maker. ( I built www.stupiddamncomputer.com with it. A great cheap program that lets you build drag and drop websites. It is a What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get (WYSIWYG) editor, so you just build it the way you want it to look. WPM comes with a bunch of templates, is easy to learn. (Get a free demo here: http://www.apexoffers.com/wpmdemo.html), The demo is fully functional, you get more templates when you buy the program, but you do not have to buy it for 30 days(might be longer). You should be able to build a few sites in that time. If you are interested in going the WordPress route (and it is a better choice for beginners), I have set up a course for my customers to teach them how to get their website online in 5 easy lessons with video tutorials. Totally no obligation, I figure if I help you build your website, when you need help you will come to me. You can get it here: http://www.freelocalonlinemarketingcours%E2%80%A6 You should avoid Joomla, Drupal, and other CMS's, and MySQL/PHP sites until you become more experienced. For web hosting, stick with the major houses, but avoid godaddy, I use Bluehost (http://www.localonlinemarketingusa.com/bluehost.html) and Hostgator (http://www.apexoffers.com/hostgator.html) They have great support and trust me if someone hijacks or hacks your domain, you will be glad you have these as hosting companies.. Not every hosting company defends their customers vigorously. Make damn sure you do not cheap out on your hosting, it will bite you in the rear before it is over.

The absolute best program for starting an online business is Site Build It (SBI). I used it to start my website Easy Recipes For Busy Cooks, and I really love it because it's the complete package. It gives you literally EVERYTHING you need, not only to build a website, but to run your business, many features would cost extra without this software. It will help you: Finding A Niche Building The Site Running An Email Campaign Social Media Markering such as Facebook Adding Comments To Your Site Running A Blog Along With Your Main Site and on, and on. and on. You need domain name. Domain name is the primary address of your website (www.example.com). You can buy that at domain registrar (like GoDaddy or Internet.bs). You will need to pay yearly fee ($ 8-10 for .com). You also need webhost. Hosting service provides you with the servers where your site is hosted. I recommend you HostGator. You can use these WORKING HostGator coupon codes to get discount: 1CENT2012HG - get 1st month for 1 cent (if you pay monthly); 25LESSIN2012 - get 25% discount (note that default code SPRING gives only 20% discount). After that you need to change nameservers. You can see how to do it here: hostgator.com /tutorials.shtml#other_registrars (remove space after .com) For creating a website there are couple of options: 1. You can code it from scratch and upload it to server; 2. You can use site-building tool provided by your host; 3. You can use CMS (like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal...) to create website. I recommend 3rd option - WordPress along with BuddyPress. BuddyPress will give you membership features for your website (checkout their website for features and themes http://buddypress.org/). For merchant sevices you can use paypal or 2checkout.
hi, i just started my own online work from home business and it is wonderful. i recommend taking a look at it and see if it is what ur looking for. http://dshaw2711.ws
www.iscripts.com has various readymade scripts... online dating, ecommerce, etc. if you are talking abut online dating you could use cybermatch. you'd have to look into the software specifics for all the features it comes with. the scripts they sell are open source. this means you can have another programmer look into it for you down the road or if you want, iscripts can also customize. they do not host your site. you are free to move it just as you are free to alter the script
I suggest you use http://stringsofsound.com/ I hired them to build my website for me ( http://universityreviews.ca/ ) and they were really really cheap. They also are providing me with free maintenance and support which has been amazing. They also host your site for free.
