What are free radicals?

Hydrogen Peroxide, Free Radicals, and Cancer?

  • H2O2 is known to dissociate into free radicals, which are known to cause cancer, yet it is commonly used, along with carbamide peroxide in tooth-whitening treatments. Why is this? Does it only produce dangerous free radicals in the presence of other compounds/ionic species not found in the Human mouth, or @ less than 3% solution, is not considered harmful, or what?!

Did you actually READ the article from Harvard? Did you understand what it was saying? It does not say that hydrogen peroxide is good for you when ingested. It says that it is produced in various parts of the body and by white blood cells to 1) help kill bacteria, and 2) as a signal to other immune system cells to congregate at the site of a wound or trauma. The article specifically states: "certain human conditions, like asthma, ... are associated with elevated levels of hydrogen peroxide and white blood cells in the affected areas." That does not sound particularly beneficial to me. You are extrapolating from this (very short) article to conclude, inappropriately, that if you drink some, it will be good for you. That conclusion is neither suggested by, nor substantiated by, the article. Maybe before you call other people morons, you should be more knowledgeable about the topic under discussion.
