My dad has a bump on his back - what can this be?

Please Help, my dad has a bump on his back and is concerned?

  • He's 53 (I'm 17). He said he's been having back pain for a while now and now he has a little bumb on his lower back. He said he's worried about it. I can't really see it, his skin's pretty red, but I can feel it. Any idea what it is, if it's something to worry about? He said he's been having back pain and he has a bump.

  • Answer:

i have arthritis in my lower back and disc disease in my upper back called the thoracic spine but in the middle to the side of my back i have a big lump. It is called a cyst which is one of my glands have a clogged gland which is filled with fatty oil from your body. Sometimes it hurts some and sometimes it itches. It has been there for years but it has not become infected like others i have had. So most of my Doctors have said just leave it alone. I finally found a surgeon who removed a mass in the area outside my anus which was called carcinoma in-situ which is a skin cancer caused by the hpv virus and if you would look up about the hpv virus there are about 20 different types and not all of them are because of genital warts, but the surgeon has said after my radiation is over with to get rid of the cancer cells near an area that couldn't be removed because of the muscle area he will remove my cyst. So your father should check with his Dr. and see if that is what it is, just an oil gland in his back that got clogged and they are very annoying and do hurt and itch and it is worse if they become infected. If it is it can be taken out and the ball of oil will be sent to pathology and is tested for cancer. Just to reassure your father, i have had 4 removed, three that became infected and 1 just because it was a small one on the side of my neck but it annoyed me because i was always pushing it around. And none of them were cancerous. So have him have it checked just for his peace of mine.
