What are the most effective ways of fund-raising to find the cure for cancer in this economy?

  • Although there is no cure, progress has been made. I am participating in the Livestrong Challenge in Austin, TX this October 2009 to fight against cancer and find the cure. Lance has been working hard this year to call on world and organizational leaders to get involved in finding the cure for cancer, but we are not there yet. Last year I participated in honor of my mom, who is a cancer survivor. I enrolled late and was new to the process, so I only raised $500. Just a few days ago I learned that my friend's 5 year-old boy was diagnosed with cancer. Cancer doesn't know about age, gender, race, or if the economy is good or bad. This year I would like to make a more dramatic impact by raising $100,000 to help find the cure. We cannot afford living with cancer and the uncertainties of treatment anymore. After cancer I set up a website Having Fun After Cancer - www.after-cancer.com and on it under Events you will see of other things that people are doing to raise funds. One tip - try and ally your fund raising to something local - people tend to give more if they can identify with someone whose life has been saved thanks to a charity, or the charity is going to donate money to a local hospital or hospice. One tip - try and ally your fund raising to something local - people tend to give more if they can identify with someone whose life has been saved thanks to a charity, or the charity is going to donate money to a local hospital or hospice. I commend you on wanting to cure cancer. I have brain cancer and almost no one cares about finding a cure for that. I live in the Philly area and all I ever hear about is the Susan G. Komen Race for the cure. They never talk about other walks or runs for other types of cancer. We need to get organized. You might check out cancer blogs (they are all over the internet if you know where and how to look) to see what steps others like yourself are taking to help combat cancer. If you truly want to do it on your own, I would contact the news media in your area and tell them what you are doing and why. The best way to get help is to get noticed by the news media for your cause. I wish you luck.
