Symbolic tattoo for 4 sisters celebrating their Mother's victory over Cancer.?
-
2009 has been a painful, yet joyous year for me and my 3 sisters. Our Mother, while getting her 5 year breast cancer free clearance, found that she had a new presentation of cancer (latered determined to be the exact same type as her breast cancer) throughout her lungs. After a major lung surgery, mega doses of chemo and radiation she has been cleared for 3 months. My sisters would like to get an identical tattoo on our represent representing her strength, courage and the bond and love which was restored because of her battle. We are African American, Native American, Christian. We do know at the bottom of the tattoo each daughter will put her birth year. Any ideas, pictures, links would be appreciated. We will do this on 12/31 to symbolize a fresh start into the new year.

As like the person above me stated, the pink ribbon is definitely the strongest symbol for breast cancer. But I am guessing you guys probably already know this and are looking for something else. I think the 4 of you need to sit and discuss this together. This is obviously something very personal and I am sure each of you have different emotions on different parts of the battle. I would say you don't have to do something that exactly represents the cancer, maybe do more something that represents what each of you took out of the experience. They don't necessarily have to be identical. I am sure this battle effected you each in different ways so you should each show that. Maybe you each get your own tattoo symbolizing your feelings of the experience but each of you include something small or similar to group them all together. Like you said, they each will have your birth year. I only suggest that you guys don't do the exact same thing because I am sure it has effected each of you differently and I am sure you all have different feelings about different steps of the battle. This way you each can get something that means the most to you, but at the same time know you got them together. I just lost someone incredibly close to me last month to a hard battle of cancer and I am in the process of trying to figure out the perfect tattoo to memorialize him and the battle as well. Good Luck.
