Civic loses power in 3rd gear?

Audi A3 2004 1.6se 2nd and 3rd gear intermittent power?

  • Answer:

Trawling the forums, this is a common problem on A3 models. I can't find a definitive answer, but it may be a sign that your gearbox is about to fail - the A3 has a catastrophic record of spectacular gearbox failures. It could also be an engine management fault: One owner had a crank sensor replaced which solved a similar issue. Audi dealers seem to be very expensive & completely incompetent as far as the problem is concerned, so hunt around for an independent VAG specialist. Good luck, you may need it!

DO NOT fool around with any MAF sensor!!! First of all, AUdi engines require ONLY specific type of engine oil or things get mucked up and eventually will fail. THis means oil that meets thet higher specification 502/505 numbers. Improper WAX based oils like Valvoline will RUIN fuel mixtures, even. The reason is simple, Your throttle body is VERY expensive, and meters air entry and trans shifting. It is about $800 American to replace. Regular oil makes ffumes and acidic vapors that can RUIN the electronics found here. SIMPLY have your THROTTLE BODY cleaned to showroom, and NEVER use oil that does not meet Audi specifications!!! THe IAC fine tunes your air/fuel mixture, and will cause drops in trans performance. Change over to Bosch IRIDIUM spark plugs, that create more power by chemical reaction with fuel components. If yours is higher mileage, flusha nd fill your trans with ONLY genuine Audi trans fluid, which is AMBER YELLOW, not red! Many Audi cars begin going downhill from inexdperienced oil change center personnel that know NOTHING about the specailnees or the Audi product line-up. They have been known to top up fluids with improper things, and cause trouble on down the line. Unplugging senosrs on an AUdi car is VERY dangerous, because your have at least THREEE computers that talk to each other through optic fibers. Disturbing the "FORCE" can cause an expensive re-flashing procedure done at the Vw/Audidealership. ALl THREEE computers need to talk to each other. The trans, the ignition, and the ffuel injection system.; Add in the ABS and Traction Control computers, and you can have a REAL mess on your hands. SOmetimes I think ist is amazing that ANY works the way it should with all the extra stuff on it! GOOD LUCK!!
