What's the difference between Florida and California beaches ?

Been to all 3, Cal sand is not white like the Guflf nor as brown as east Fla. Kind of medium.. Many of the beaches are larger than E. Fla where the sand constantly washes away as anyone who spends time there knows. The worst thing about Fla sand is it's covered with snow birds and travel trailers from New Jersey and Michigan whereas we actually live at our beach. We have a lot of Royal Palms and less native crooked ones like in Fla. but crooked ones are still nice too. Yeh, Cal has less sticky humidity, no see'ums and mosquitoes. We use sun block and not Avon Skin so Soft.

California: Sand is colored more like Atlantic. Waves are MUCH larger on the Pacific coast, and come with less frequency. Also, the currents come from Alaska, so the water is much cooler. Palm trees are not native to CA, despite what you see. We have about a dozen varieties here, all imported centuries ago. Florida is definitely more tropical. South Florida is actually in the tropics. LA has a Mediterranean climate, and is subtropoical.

Florida beaches are warmer and more tropical. San Diego, which is as far south as you can go in the US on the West Coast, is roughly on the same latitude as Charleston, SC. Also on the East Coast the jet stream moves from south to north bringing warm water up from the Caribbean. On the West Coast the jet stream moves from north to south bringing cold water down from Canada to California. The sand in Southern California is more similar to Atlantic Coast beaches than Gulf Coast beaches. The only plus side that SoCal has going is that many of the beaches allow bonfires which is usually not allowed in the East.

LA is a desert there is nothing tropical here. Our water is cold and we have little humidity. We have regular sandy beaches and rocky beaches below cliffs.

Way different! I have lived in both places. I much prefer the beaches in Florida. Yes, the beaches are also a brownish color in California. But the sand is hard-packed, not soft. People wear their sneakers to walk along the shore. Some beaches have whiter, softer sand, like Santa Monica Beach- a little whiter and softer. There are cliffs at a lot of the CA beaches which looks really pretty. Here's an example: http://www.lotsafunmaps.com/Santa_Barbara/Hendrys_Beach.html The main difference, and it's a huge one, is that the water is extremely cold at the beach in CA and it also makes the air much colder at the beach than at the street or town. So you need a jacket when you are at the beach. This makes the beach not very interactive in CA. You can look at it and walk around in your sneakers but you can't swim, unless you wear a wetsuit. I'd rather be at the beach in Florida any day!
