Is grad school cheaper in London than in the US?

Would you rather live in Calgary or London for six years of grad school?

  • Answer:

If you are a redneck or want to become one, Calgary's the place for you. Otherwise it's boring old Ontario. Not much of a choice really.

London in itself is a pretty dull place, not somewhere I'd want to spend a lot of time. I hear that undergrad students in rez have a good time partying in London, but that might not appeal as much to you as a graduate student. The whole place feels suburban, without a real downtown. On the plus side, it does have the advantage of being within an easy day trip's distance of Toronto and Niagara Falls, and weekend trip distance from Montreal and New York City. On the other hand, Calgary is a great city in its own right. Relatively isolated from other major cities, but quickly growing to become a very attractive place to live. It is distinctly urban, with an ever more diverse population, great night life, good public transit, shopping, entertainment, festivals, and other things you'd expect from a metropolis. It's a tough decision. I'd suggest you spend a bit of time in each city, and then go with the one that you feel has the best vibe.

London, Ontario or London, England? I only ask because Western University is in London, Onatrio and they have many grad school programs... I live in Toronto and lived in London, England for 6 months and I loved it. I have never been to Calgary but know a lot about it... If I had to go somewhere for 6 years I don't know where I would choose. London, England is awesome and there is so much to do. I loved the history and the culture. It's also soooo cheap to travel around the rest of Europe out of London which is a definite advantage. However, I think after 6 years I would be tired of the noise and busy atmosohere. It's also very expensive. I really don't know which I would choose! If you mean London, Ontario then again I don't know... Western is a great university and a beautiful campus. I would probably choose Calgary over London, Ontario.

London, Ontario or London, England? If Ontario, it's an immediate "I'd rather live in Calgary" because I have family there (and because I'm Manitoban, Ontario isn't one of my favorite provinces) If England, it's a toss up... I know, it's England but I have a really awesome family... All depends on if they have what I want to go into
