How to force a program to stay open?

Minor for future Air Force Officer?

• I posted not too long ago about my uncertainty as to which path I should take - stay an extra year in school to be apart of my university's AFROTC program, or graduate on schedule and take my chances and apply to OTS. I've since decided that I will suffer through the extra year and join the AFROTC program. In order to join, you have to have 3 years remaining in your plan of study. I initially had 1.5 - 2, but since I want to join the program, I picked up another major in an attempt to stretch my studies to last 3 years. My original major is International and Global Studies, I am now double-majoring with Political Science (International Relations track). I (will) have two declared minors: European Studies to accompany my IGS major, and Aerospace Studies which is the AFROTC required minor. Also, I am going for a certificate in Diplomacy. HOWEVER, after spending a lot of time with my adviser, we discovered that even with the double-major I will still be set to graduate before 3 years (that's taking no summer classes, and the minimum of 12 hours per semester required by my scholarship). Anyways, after that long explanation, here is my question: I've decided to add yet another minor, making that a double-major, triple-minor situation (I know, crazy, right?). Which minor do you think would suit me best in the Air Force? I'm hoping for an Intelligence position and perhaps a government job afterward (UN, CIA, etc.). My options are: Environmental Studies World Comparative Studies Leadership Studies Thanks guys!

  If your AFSC of choice is Intelligence, might also want to consider Army Intelligence. Your areas of interest almost seem more suitable for an Army Intelligence slot. Air Force Intelligence has a lot to do with Interpreting photographic evidence, electronic evidence, proficiency etc It might be worthwhile to pursue a critical foreign language. Three years is enough time to complete a major in a language. Strongly suggest asking at the Detachment exactly how competitive Intelligence has been for Afrotc Cadets in recent years and which majors are preferred for Intelligence slots. The chance to commission through Army Rotc is probably better than through Afrotc and Intelligence slots are not that competitive through Army Rotc. While Intelligence is very competitive for West Point Cadets. It is not so competitive for Rotc Cadets. It is just the revers of Infantry which is not so competitive for West Point Cadets but is extremely competitive for Rotc Cadets. West Point Class of 2011's 1070 Cadets were allotted 69 Intelligence slots, 230 Infantry slots and 114 Aviation slots. FY 2011 Rotc 2,817 Cadets who went Active Duty had 342 Intelligence slots, 352 Infantry slots and 152 Aviation slots FY 2010 for Rotc, Intelligence had 346 slots and Infantry had 274, Aviation 133. FY 2009 for Rotc, Intelligence had 334, Infantry had 260, Aviation had 134. This is why Infantry and Aviation are so competitive for Rotc Cadets I don't know the number of intelligence slots that were available for Afrotc Cadets in 2011. If I recall correctly, 52 Usafa Cadets selected Intelligence. Suggest taking a look at FM 2-0 Intelligence for Army Intelligence. CFETP(Career Field Education and Training Plan) 14NX for Air Force Intelligence has become impossible to find on the web. Pg 30 of this report.... http://www.rand.org/pubs/technical_reports/2009/RAND_TR637.pdf .... indicates that in 2007 there were 3,087 Air Force Intelligence Officers, 4,239 Army Intelligence Officers, 1,377 Marine Intelligence Officers and 2,136 Navy Intelligence Officers. Recall that Navy Intelligence Officers generally commission through Navy Ocs as Intelligence is not usually open to Nrotc and Naval Academy commissioned Ensigns. http://www.cnrc.navy.mil/noru/orojt3/generalofficer.htm#5 Air Force OTS is similar to Navy Ocs where an applicant applies for specific AFSC's while for Army Ocs College Option Officer Candidates do not go to OCS with a pre selected branch but must compete for branch assignment based on performance at OCS.
