Need Help Making Friends?

My boyfriend thinks I need more friends though I'm having difficulty making new ones. Help?

• I transferred to a new university last semester. It's close enough to home that there are some people I have known my whole life, so I wasn't completely alone coming here. I have joined many organizations on campus and off campus including two separate church groups, professional organizations, and any social activities where I could possibly find interesting people to try to meet new people, but non of them seem to be interested in hanging out. Not even people in my classes.I have very close friends back home, but no matter what I do, I can't seem to make actual friends here. I am a kind, open, caring person who is down for anything. Nevertheless, people never follow through with plans we make or I suggest. Basically, adjusting to this new school is hard because everyone already has their set groups of friends. I have been dating a wonderful man for the past four months who tries to look out for my best interests. Tonight, he told me that he wishes that I had more friends because he feels bad leaving me alone to spend time with his friends (which I encourage. Gotta have man time!) I have one close friend that I spend time with here, so I usually go to her. I know I shouldn't be, but I was kind of offended by what he said. I have heard it from quite a few people before. I feel like theres something wrong with me, even though people tell me that I'm perfectly fine. How should I handle this? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

  I've been in the same situation. You can't force friendships to happen, but it's nice to have them. Don't be offended by your boyfriend's comments. Just tell him you agree. I wish I had more friends too, but I don't really want to hang out with flaky people either.
