What have been your symptoms of Fibromyalgia?

Are my symptoms fibromyalgia or tendonitis?

  • In November I started getting a pain on the inside of my elbow, the doc thought ulnar nerve entrapment, then the muscle started to hurt and I was told golfers elbow or tendonitis. My arm hurts so bad, and its worse by the end of the week. I am a CSR in a call center, I do a lot of typing and mouse moving. No one knows what's wrong with me so I get sent to a specialist. Well she is telling me fibromyalgia? I get put on a leave of absence at work because the.pain is getting worse and worse and the specialist is sending me back to work because she insists its fibromyalgia and that's not work related. I haven't even been tested for this? What's going on with me? My arm tends to hurt toward the end of the week after I have worked at least 2 shifts, I can barely do house work on the weekends like normal because it hurts so bad, its intense... Help!

  • Answer:

fms is WIDESPREAD pain---not localized to a specific area....to diagnose FMS--they needed to do xray.mri of specific painful areas, do a lot of blood tests to rule out other things.. the actual cause might not be work related---but only that work makes the symtpoms worse FMS DOES NOT HAVE TO COME IN PAIRS......although that is common--it is not a requirement fms has 18 tenderpoints that are painful when pressed---these are different than the ongoing pain

Fibromyalgia is diagnosed by the painful sites, where they are and do they match the site on the other side of the body that also hurts. In other words, fibro pain comes in pairs. Both elbows, both knees, both shoulders, there is like 14 pairs or so. What you have is probably tennis elbow, and yes, it is called tendinitis. Rivers has it, and got it from using the leaf blower in the yard all day. My goodness, that hurt so bad! I actually went to the ortho doctor, and Rivers never goes to the doctor if she can avoid it! I was crying that night, and Rivers never cries! Doctor gave me a steroid shot in the elbow, speaking of pain, and gave me a band to wear around my arm just below the elbow, and sure enough, it got better. It still bothers once in awhile when I type or over use it. I just go put the band on for awhile, keep it warm, I apply heat if it got really bad again, and rest it, and it gets better. Some ASA or some ibuprofen can help if you can take those things. Well, it is just Rivers opinion, but she might be telling you fibromyalgia because it isn't work related, get it? She is fixing things so the work place does not have to pay you for being off or any treatment you might need. They choose fibro because there are not any expensive treatments for fibro. My local hospital supply store, wear they sell braces and splints and such carries these bands, hey, check Walgreen's, they have everything else there. Wear the band tight, but not so tight it cuts off your circulation. Dr. told me it is not known why the band works, it just does. Perhaps it keeps the inflammed tendon from moving in a certain way. Good luck with your arm. Hey, you might want to run with the fibro diagnosis, maybe some permanent disability? LOL, probably not, but it is worth checking on!
