What colleges are best for my major?

What major would Event Planning fall under & which colleges have the best programs for it?

  • I want to go into college for event planning for any type of big organization, charities, or weddings. When apply to college what major would I select because obviously there is not one that just says event planning (or at least I have not seen one) Also what colleges have the best or really good programs for event planning? It doesn't matter what state they're in. Thank you! :) Actually it is!!! You know those people you hire for weddings...they WENT to COLLEGE and they got a DEGREE in Event Management so they could plan those beautiful weddings. So don't tell me this is not a degree path when people do it everyday after going to school and getting their hard earned degrees in this field! WOW you sound dumb AND you're disrespectful! But actually I have found some things: http://hospitality.kendall.edu/landing/hospitality/2/thankyou.html ^^^^ That is a link to a college in Chicago THE SCHOOL OF ***HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT*** AT KENDALL COLLEGE The so called "NON-DEGREE" path I have chooses actually has a school for it *GASP* it's a miracle considering it's not a degree path!!!

  • Answer:

First of all, stay away from schools like Phoenix, and Kaplan. They are degree mills and a degree from a school like that does not carry real weight with employers. The major takes different names, including Event Planning and Event Management. Some legitimate colleges that offer an event planning-related major: Indiana University - Purdue Lasell Bowling Green Iowa State Champlain (not a major, but a specialization for Marketing majors) You can also major in Hospitality, which is a little broader but still valuable for a future event planner. Cornell University has the best Hospitality college in the country. Other good ones with a Hospitality Administration/Management major are: UMass Amherst Michigan State U Nevada Las Vegas Boston University Florida International Florida Atlantic Florida State Rutgers San Francisco State Temple U Denver Washington State U South Carolina If the school only has a minor or specialization, you would major in something related, such as Marketing or Public Relations.

I think its Marketing. You could also try communications as you will need to talk a lot.
