Suggestions for a speech to text device or program to buy?
-
Years ago I was planning on buying Naturally speaking dragon b/c the idea that I just have to speak into a device and the words pop up on the computer without me having to type sounded so awesome. It sounds like it would be sssssssoooooooo helpful to those who have lousy typing skills, have thoughts that go faster then there hands, have school work which due to stuff like maybe lengthy explanations would be spoken quickly in a few minutes in contrast to typing it for dozens or all of the above. Then, one day I saw it at a Staples store and noticed how it cost hundreds of dollars. This is likely though b/c of the loads of other things it can do along with the speech to text ability not b/c it has a super high quality speech to text transcription quality (right?).A few months ago I found out about the Windows speech recognition feuature on my laptop.I only made my computer practise recoginizing my voice only once but it's not really good.I have to speak loudly until it hears what I'm saying and even then it ussually types up something that is barely similar to what I actually said.I know now that there's devices out there like microphones and cheaper programs that can do the same thing. However quality wise how good are they for speech to text?.Are there easy to find one's better then the audio transcribing for making youtube captions?.

Answer:
The great thing about Dragon is it learns what your voice sounds like over time, so it gets smarter the longer that you use it. If your computer has bluetooth and you have a compatible headset you don't even have to be near the computer in order to use the program, you just need to buy the bluetooth compatible version. Or if you have a smartphone, you just need the dragon remote or recorder to transcribe your speech from anywhere. The Windows Speech Recognition feature is, as you said, rubbish. Here is a list of speech recognition software. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_speech_recognition_software
