What super charger or turbo charger would be good for 98 camry?
-
I have a 98 camry that i want to add some stuff to because i like cars and i want to get into fixing and upgrading them, i have a friend who could probably help me with the installation but what turbo charger or super charger should i use? i was thinking a turbo charger because it doesnt use the power from the engine so better fuel economy and it can also be more powerful, but they are probably more difficult to put in so i dont know, anyway if you have any suggestions i would appreciate it. thanks.

Answer:
You'll find out what happens to a naturally aspirated engine when you supercharge or turbocharge it! Compare every moving part number of a factory installed forced induction motor to the same list of parts on the same engine without forced induction. None of them are the same! The radiator is larger, so is the oil pump and oil pan as well as the exhaust system and you'll need an inner-cooler as well as 93 octane fuel for as long as you own the car. One part will not make the car fly. It's an important package deal from bumper to bumper or the motor won't last one week!

Neither. A Camry is a great car, but it's a family car. You will waste time and money trying to reinvent the wheel. If you want a fast car, buy a car that can be made to be fast. There is nothing you can bolt on or make fit, that will make your car a super car. If you really want to improve your Camry, buy a cold air intake or a chip that changes the computer profile and adds a few more horse power. You will save thousands and be much happier in the long run.

Either will give you a nice horsepower increase . . . and using a little boost occasionally on an otherwise unmodified engine might not kill it immediately. But remember that forced induction amounts to raising your effective compression ratio at least a couple points: not only need higher octane gas, but more strain on valves, rings, bearings, time gears/chains/belt.......more heat in oil & coolant etc. At the vary least, you have to redo the fuel system, modify ignition, etc. Considering that the car is 14 years old - can it take it? is it worth it? or should you take the $$ and apply to a different ride.

Adding a turbocharger will not improve fuel economy. I don't understand why people buy into this fantasy. If you want a more fuel efficient car, sell the Camry and get a Corolla. Not only is this much cheaper and more effective but you should come out ahead financially.
