What's the process of leasing a car?

Whats the process of putting the title of a car you just bought from a person& not a dealer, into your name?

  • Im considering buying a car on Craigslist& Im just curious to knw the process of switching the title to my name. Is it before or after I buy the car from the owner? Are their certain requirements? Where do I go? Also, Im young& hav no credit so buying from a dealer wouldnt be a good idea yet, right? Pros& Cons? Just want a third opinion! I appreciate all the responses. Thanks in advanced (:

Simple. You take all the paperwork to the DMV, wait in line for (what seems like) 3 days, pay a bunch of money, and you're done. If your state requires an emissions check, you will need a certificate for that too.

been there, done that.

Once you've purchased the car you should have in your hands a detailed Bill of Sale and the title signed by the seller. Take all this paperwork to your local DMV and they will process it for you. You need to register the car in your name, pay your taxes, buy tags and get the title transferred into your name. You can do it all at the DMV. Your credit should have no affect on who you buy a car from. Once you get approved for a car loan you can buy your car from anyone you choose. If you are unsure how the process works, talk to your bank. Go into your bank and talk to a loan officer. The advise is free.
