What threading is the top barrel?

Would a barrel pressurized with air float better than a barrel with just atmospheric pressure?

  • I am getting confused because I know air has a weight and the barrel that is more pressurized should therefore have more weight than the barrel that has atmospheric pressure. Does that mean it would be less buoyant since the overall weight of the barrel has increased? Or since there would be hydrostatic pressure in the pressurized barrel, only the weight of the barrel itself would be a factor and therefore float the same as a barrel with atmospheric pressure. Thanks

The sealed barrel at atmospheric pressure will be more bouyant than a barrel filled with pressurized air. Compressed air is denser than atmospheric air, and is therefore less bouyant in water.

Yes and then no. A pressurized barrel is not going to take on water. And open barrel might. As the pressure increases the air will eventually turn to liquid and the barrel will ride lower.
