How can I test my pain threshold?

What does having a high pain threshold actually mean?

  • Does it mean you FEEL less pain, that you can HIDE that you're in pain well, or that you can STAND more pain (you don't cry etc.). Because I broke my leg when I was 7, and I could walk on it and mask my pain. Today I hurt my knee and my arm, and I'm wondering if they're broken and I just have a high pain threshold.

  • Answer:

It means it takes a LOT of pain before you feel it or even complain about it. example: "Doc, I don't need any anesthetic for the pain because I have a high pain threshold." or "...I have a high threshold to pain."

If you were being tortured or burnt alive you wouldn't pass out but you would still feel as much pain as someone who passes out except they can escape it by being unconscious, you would suffer more.

A high thresh hold for pain is when you can tale and handle more pain. sometimes masking pain may look like a high thresthold. And when you break something you are in to much shock to really feel. i broke my arm to where to bones were out of the skin and i didnt react at all. But also "takin a hit" can show more of a high thresh hold since you arent as afffected by shock. Hope this helps. ^-^

99% of the time it's just braggery. otherwise it's how much you can tolerate before you use your common sense and do something about it.

For the best answers, search on this site https://shorturl.im/avMhi It's hard to tell where your pain threshold is. :-) It really just depends on your personality. I had a pain-killer free birth. Unfortunately, my baby was born a month late so I had to use pitocin to induce, which generally makes it more painful. It was painful, but by the time I thought I couldn't take it anymore, it was time to push the baby out -- which, although it sounds really funny, felt great! You can't really feel anything down there during the pushing stage in a natural birth because the circulation is cut off (some women have even been known to orgasm -- dreamy huh? ;-)). The contractions are really the worst part of labor and it feels like bad pms cramping. I'm sure you already know this, but heating pads and back massages can help this a lot. :-) If it get's really bad, there is a shot of painkiller the hospital can give you, if you go in. The best thing about natural birth is how less likely you are to tear -- which means the discomfort is short lasting. :-) I didn't think my childbirth experience, even with the pitocin, was bad at all. I even starting thinking I could do it again 10 minutes after my daughter was born. :-) All in all, you should do what you feel most comfortable with and have a good spouse, relative or friend there to support you. Good luck! my natural childbirth is a very wonderful experience. I can't wait to have another! PS I didn't vomit. You are less likely to get sick with a natural birth.
