Thinking about giving guitar lessons..how much should I charge?

  • I'm 18 and in starting think about giving guitar lessons(for beginners right now) I use to teach at my schools guitar club and I was president until it got cut. I can play a variety of styles such as blues, funk,rock,jazz, gospel, etc.. I have a good knowledge of music theory also. I've arranged several pieces not just for guitar,but string orchestra, and I've played in different bands, and currently in church. So I have a decent background because. I really love teaching and helping others and I think it's a great learning experience. But I'm not really what how much I should charge. Any suggestions? I was thinking maybe 20/hr

For starting off, 20/hr seems good. My younger sister takes piano lessons, and we pay 30/hr for her, but the business we use has been around for a while. Charge 20/hr while you work on building up your clientele, and when you think you're well established you can slowly start raising the fee. But personally, I'd say try not to ever go over 30/hr, cuz that just starts to get expensive for those trying to get the lessons.
