Answer:
You might 'own' the piece 'like anyone else,' but You Do Not Own the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, or the rights to the recorded performance. The fact is, recorded performances have their own copyright, and one from 1964 is still now under actively owned copyright. The royalties from that recording are continuing, as is both ethical and legal, to support the orchestra. Considering the actuality of copyright of sound recording, whatever reasoning it is that makes you think you have 'title' to a free download might need some major re-working in the light of the facts: any 'free' download would be break the law, and ripping people off. Best regards. ADD: P.s. "Don't talk about copyright things." Copyright must be mentioned because it is a FACT the specific recording is under copyright. Your "command" to not speak of copyright -- little princess ---, well, you are not in a position to "command" or demand things of others. With nothing else about you to go on, it makes you appear to be a nastily spoiled brat.

I'm afraid you are mistaken, Toni. Though the music is indeed out of copyright, the sound recording -- precisely that which you are explicitly looking for! -- from 1964 is absolutely NOT out of copyright, so any 'free' d'loading would indeed be illegal because it's simply theft. Depending on the jurisdiction in which you live, the minimum term of copyright for a sound recording would be 50 years from the date the recording was first made & published. In the case of the recording you want, that means that it remains in copyright *at least* until 2014. In the EU, the 50 year term of copyright has since been extended by an EU Directive (2011) which means that your desired recording will now enjoy full protection for 70 years from that same date of first publication, that is to say, until 2034. Many, probably most, other international jurisdictions operate same or similar terms of protection. So, you're out of luck where 'free' is concerned until 2034 at the earliest. Back to scouring the secondhand record shops again... :-) All the best, & good luck!
