Why do you think you are the most suitable person for the job?

Do you think they are only asking me for a job interview because I was the only near-qualified person for it?

• So I applied for a job, with an application due date for two weeks ago. I have skills (and interests) in the relevant area, and a little bit of experience, but no where as much experience as they require. Still, anyway, I think I could cope with the job as I am young, energetic and although not too memory - smart, I tend to adapt to new environments fairly quickly, no matter how tough the job seems to be. The job interview is in a small, isolated location which doesn't see many university graduates or new people for that matter. Do you think they contacted me so late after the due date to just "see what I have to offer?" because I was the only one to apply for it? Would it be likely that if the interview went OKAY but not great but they had no one else to fill the role, would I likely get it? I've applied for other jobs that required less experience but got a call pretty much instantly for an interview. Goodluck to me!!

  Trust me, you weren't the only one to apply for that job or to be nearly qualified for it. Most jobs get hundreds of applications. No idea why they contacted you if you don't meet all the requirements, but maybe you're underestimating yourself or maybe not everything they listed was a requirement. A lot of jobs just put down what they ideally prefer and only a few things are actually required. Also, employers have no problem interviewing people and not hiring any of them if they don't meet what they want for the position--it definitely happens. Not every job gets back to you quickly. My last job got back to me the very next day after applying; my new job took two or three weeks to get back to me before setting up an interview.
