How long to wait after interview to call and check up?

When should I call to follow up on and interview and what should I say?

  • I interviewed last Tuesday the 27th for a position that I really hope to get. I think the interview went really well. During my interview with the Hiring Manager she said she would love for me to meet with the Vice President and went to see if he was able to meet with me. I thought that was a good sign, she introduced me to the VP and my meeting with him went pretty well. He said that they would be making a decision early the next week. I sent Thank you Letters to both the Hiring Manager and the VP the next day, at the end of which I said "I look forward to hearing [their] hiring decision". So I've spent all of Monday and Tuesday staring at my phone and refreshing my email. Today is Wednesday and I still haven't heard anything. I'm wondering if I should give the Hiring Manger a call today or should I wait till the end of the week and then call? And when I do call what should I say? I was thinking of, "Hi this is ___________. I was calling to check the status of the position I interviewed for last Tuesday." I need a little advice I don't want to seem too pushy or desperate.

  • Answer:

CHILL DUDE!! They will get back with you when they make their decision. They made that perfectly clear. Your thank you note WAS your reminder that you are still interested and it keeps your name in the mix. Calling this early really does show that you are pushy, rude, and desperate. Most companies use the US Postal service to send letters to the applicants. Be patient and watch the mail. Continue to search for and apply for other positions. Don't put all your eggs in the same basket. Keep on applying for things until you hear the words you are hired and you start on this date.
