How do i get my medical assistant certification back?

Is it better to get your medical assistant certification online or in an actual school?

  • Answer:

Can you even get it online? The biggest part of medical assisting is actual experience working with real people, not just the bok knowledge. I'd go to a real school.

Any program like that (where you are certified to do hands-on patient care) are not available online, if you found any than they are scams. Also like said before those "private" colleges that offer med assisting, pharmacy tech ect. they are also scams. To find a truely accredited program you should be looking at technical colleges and community colleges. Many may not offer these though due to medical assisting is not always a certification in many states (many states do not recognize these as actuall programs of study).

Let me preface by saying that there are NOT supposed to be too many jobs for MAs (or medical billers or coders) despite what those private overly priced For-profit schools say. If you're still interested in training, please consider the more affordable community college or county vo-tech school as long as the program is accredited within the industry. There are some clinical skills taught in a clinical MA program (as opposed to a medical office specialist/assistant program) such as drawing blood (phlebotomy), venipuncture (giving injections), and ekg (electrocardiogram) testing of which classroom experience sounds like a "better" idea than online. Please, however, forgo those private $$ for-profit schools regardless. For general career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search. U.S. colleges: http://www.utexas.edu/world/univ
