What does a graphic designer do in the gaming industry?

Would you consider a Game Designer a good choice for me?

  • I always wanted to be a Game Designer since I was little and I've been making 100's of game idea's. I like making stories for them but I heard from a guy that there is no "story teller" in the Gaming Industry and most of them do both the programming and decide on the story together. He also said my game idea's are so "different" that they'll be unprofitable. I doubt it though. Well I think of the stories and gameplay for my Game Idea's. That guy said that most people who "story tell" also program and design the game itself. I do like the story telling part of the game's more though(but just barely higher than Gameplay though) What do you think though? Would it be a good choice for me?

  • Answer:

Basically, your friend is correct - companies do not hire people who specialize in the story line. You will need to learn hoe to program computers. Most companies want someone with a Bachelor's degree in Comp. Sci and knowledge of either programming or scripting languages. Whether that is right for you is something only you know.
