IT Internship (Enterprise Application Integration)?

  • Im currently a student pursuing a Computer Science degree and I just got an 8 month Co-op/internship offer at HSBC bank for the position of Enterprise Application Integration Intern. Based on the job posting, it doesn't involve much coding (which I really really love to do). My question is, can someone explain me what exactly this job has to offer? Will this be worth the experience and worth putting on my resume as an asset once I finish my studies and pursue a Software Engineering position? Pasted from the job posting. Duties and Responsibilities - The student will be part of a Global team providing integration consultation, governance, deployment and support to HSBC group wise projects. - Participate in design meetings and assist solution architects in preparing integration solution design artefacts. - Participate in integration solution development using in house integration solutions and / or Spring Integration and / or IBM Web sphere Message Broker. - Provide support to the development and testing environment. - Provide support as appropriate to project manager on project management activities. - Maintain team website with up-to-date information and maintain documents libraries. - Adhere strictly to compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC and regulatory standards, policies and practices, report control weakness, compliance breaches and operational loss events. Thank you

Adam, This is a GREAT opportunity for you!!! Especially when we are living in a time where its hard to get any type of job nowadays, including internships. Like Richard said, it may not be the ideal job you want, but rarely anyone gets the job they want when they're first starting out. This internship offers you a great opportunity to your work for a well known banking company(which will indeed look great on your resume), and get some excellent work experience. Also, network with people within the company and tell them your future goals and your interests in coding. You never know, someone there might just know somebody who can find you a software engineering position within or outside the company. They may even offer you a full-time or part-time job at HSBC when your internship is over. This internship seems like it help you gain a lot real world experience and develop some valuable skills so I would definitely say its worth it, unless you're offered an even better internship. Hope this helps, best of luck to you and congrats!!!

This may not be exactly what you were looking for as far as no coding but an internship with a major well known banking institution will look good on any resume. Also, the whole idea with internships is that you will get yourself in there and prove your worth and get a job offer out of the deal. This looks really really good. Best Wishes!
