When does the skating rink in central park open?

Ice skaters in Central Park: Is the middle of an ice rink during public skating reserved?

  • Answer:

Yes, most ice rinks in the US have that same rule - figure skating in the middle of the ice. It's open to anyone doing spins, jumps, turns or backward skating. Misguided parents think it's some sort of safety zone for their toddlers, but they're mistaken. It's actually a pretty dangerous place to camp out, lol. Courtesy Rules: If someone is taking a lesson with a coach, give them right of way. Skaters doing spins or setting up jumps should be given a little extra room as well. Other than that, just be courteous and pay attention. Most importantly, always look where you're going, especially when traveling backwards. Some rinks don't allow ANY backward skating, jumps, spins or turns at all during public sessions. If you're not sure, just ask a manager or skate guard.

It's a public rink, you can go in there if you want. The cones are just there for others to give those doing spins their space and so random people who don't know any better would just skate through and cause danger to both parties. It's like this usually at most skating rinks. You can go in the center if you want to do spins and other stuff like this Hope that helps ^_^
