Tattoo apprenticeship help?

  • I'm aiming at finding a tattoo apprenticeship next year in sydney, but i'm a little impatient lol, i bought two machines for dismantling and reconstructing as I'm gearing myself up with as much info as possible, dont worry not planning on using them just needed models as Im completely new to the whole industry. Im currently building myself a portfolio of artworks while Im studying VA, but I'm a little lost on the whole idea of how to prepare. Is there anyone who can give me some tips on how to prepare, any info on what tattoo artists would be looking for, to help me? Unfortunately I dont know anyone in the industry to ask

  • Answer:

I think tattooists generally practice on fake skin before going on to real people, so I'd imagine you'd want to look into that rather than finding models Do you have any tattoos yourself? Have you tried talking to tatoo artists and find out what's required, what they'd be looking for etc? Get yourself a first aid course under your belt too
