How long does it take for your appendix to burst?

My appendix burst and the doctors won't take it out, they are using antibiotics, does that sound right?

  • I'm nineteen years old. My appendix burst about 4 or 5 days ago. The doctor said he'd rather wait on surgery because of the infection spreading. Now that sounds right to me but wrong at the same time. Everyone says they got there's removed as soon as it ruptured but i found on the internet that this is an alternative route. Too be honest, here comes the reason why I'm writing this out on the internet. I'm really scared i might die from this or if more problems will start. THey said surgery isn't the best option and at the same time the antibiotics seem to be working at times. so i don't know what to believe. I'm scared, and my family is to. it's like what do we trust or do. please give me feedback and tell me if you have went through this before in your life or if it happen to someone else you know. what was the outcome. bad? good? death? i want honest answers and opinions. thank you so much!

  • Answer:

No, your doctor is doing the right thing. Your appendix did not JUST rupture, it ruptured several days ago. That means that the bacteria is spread throughout your abdominal cavity. Any surgery before the antibiotics have killed off the majority of the bacteria would be a huge risk to you. If the antibiotics are working, as you say they are, then you should continue that route. The next step will be up to your doctor, but at some point I am sure your appendix will have to be removed.

Peritonitis is the danger. Very dangerous. You better change doctors. I know that if the apendix is ready to burst they remove it at once But if bursted, you should be IN THE HOSPITAL NOT AT HOME.
