How much did you revise for your O-Levels/GCSEs?

Why cant i revise for my exams?

  • Okay so i have a revision timetable with all my subjects on it, but i still cant revise. i try to revise but after 5minutes i stop as it is so boring, i end up watching TV or going on my laptop. i need to revise to get good grades, and as it is the Easter holidays it should be easy for me to revise as i have the whole day. but i just cant. please help me! :(

  • Answer:

I feel exactly the same as you do at the moment. What I have started doing is setting a time limit to get a certain amount done, say, i want to get these 5 pages done in these next 30 minutes, and if you succeed, reward yourself with something that you like. i know this is to tough but there is literally no other way around it, you just have to be self-disciplined :(

only do little bits if you really can't be focused. like if you planned 2-3 hours try an hour and a half. the way you know its for a shorter amount of time helps you push through do it as soon as you wake up. okay so not AS SOON as you wake up, eat breakfast first so you don't get distracted by hunger (or boredom and blame it on hunger) If you say you don't have time to revise get up an hour earlier, especially if you lay in bed until 11 like i do. Set yourself a absolute minimum of stuff you need to cover in your revision in that session. once you have reached your limit try to push yourself that extra 15 minutes and then thats 15 minutes your ahead.. finally ask a parent to help you revise or revise with friends. have fun and try different ways of revising. I like practice questions and past papers, but i also make posters to stick up in my bedroom with key points in bold bright colours to make it visual as well as factual. Hope this helps

Go to somewhere less distraction, like your room..I used to be like this when I was young but keep focus on revision and making notes off the books or looking for some tips off the interent, such as skoool.ie, I am not sure that if you are currently in the post primary (high school), but if you are, go to examinations.ie and check some questions from exam papers but unless if you are irish. So internationally, making notes off your subject books, drinking water as plenty as possible on your table or asking friends for some copy of notes then studying it properly. Importantly, only studying more on what your least favourite subjects, the less your favourite subjects because you know the most anwsers.

You have to try really hard. Revision can be boring, but if you want good grades then you have to get on with it. Just think, would you rather watch TV in this time and not reach your potential, or work really hard, watch TV all summer and get a great grades on results day? try a reward system; 30 mins of proper revision= 30 minutes of TV!! Good luck!
