What exactly is a retail investigator?

What does it mean if a police department changed my investigator from a CI Investigator to an AI investigator?

  • I recently was assigned a background investigator for the background investigation part of the application process for the NYPD. They called me up to receive a new investigator and when I looked at the paper, I noticed the title of my investigator was changed. They initially assigned me to a C.I. Investigator and when I received the notice of a change, I was assigned to an A.I. Investigator. I was just wondering if anyone knew what these changes might mean and what the AI/CI stand for. Any help is appreciated.

  • Answer:

I think if you are asking Yahoo Answers instead of NYPD recruiting, I don't want you on ANY police force.

Amen to that, Steven. The only CI I am aware of is a Confidential Informant

AI is a Administrative Investigator, he will review your file and conduct any follow up inquires into your past. Its routine.
