I can't comment on Proscout in particular but can talk about showcases like this in general as there are many different companies and they all operate pretty much in the same way At any showcase maybe 5% of attendees will get an agent and 95% go home empty handed and a few thousand dollars poorer. It's not that it's necessarily a scam -- Proscout is just a venue that invites agents. It's that 95% of the people attending do not have the training and experience required to get an agent. Agents do not sign beginners. Ever. They are looking for people with 2-5 years experience and training. That means kids who have been in childrens theatre companies, have been starring in local/regional theatre productions, have been taking acting (and ideally dance and singing) classes at the best schools in your area. The attendees are already prejudged before they even arrive at the showcase -- the agents look through all of the attendees' experience and training listed on their applicaion and already have a short list of people they want to see before they even arrive. Sometimes a person whose resume they were impressed by doesn't impress them on stage and they won't get called into the smaller sessions. And in rare cases, they overlooked someone in the initial screening. But for the most part, the agents know before they see anyone who is on their shortlist Proscout should be telling you exactly how much it is going to cost. Most showcases tell you how much it costs for each participant and how much for each parent or other family member to attend. They should also have a list of hotels where they have negotiated special rates on rooms -- you don't mention which city you are going to. Do you want to stay in a nice hotel like a Hilton or are you happy in a Motel 6? Nobody can tell you what a hotel room costs -- just look on hotels.com for the city you are going to on the dates of the showcase and compare rates of various hotels. Food also depends which city you are in and what type of food you eat. If your kids are happy with McDonalds then that's going to cost less than if you eat in actual restaurants. And I have no idea how much your kids eat. My friend's 13 year old son can eat 2 steaks and still not be full.

No genuine agent would even consider taking on a client who didn't have several years of good training at a good stage school and a lot of stage experience. School stuff doesn't count. The other answer gives you some great advice.
