1. make sure all line is off. Run the Tag end (open end not on the spool) through a couple line guides on the rod, with the reel still seated on the rod. 2. Unscrew the reel cover, run the tag end of the line through the line guid on the front of the spool. 3. Depress the button, carefully because the gears could push out (no biggie they're easily put back in) find the clevis (is a little pin in the axle of the spool.) You might not have one depending on the model year. 4. tie an over hand knot close to the end of the line cinch it tight. wrap the line around the shaft of the spool and tie another overhand knot. Pull it til the first overhand knot tightens against the knot. This is called an arbor knot. 5. screw the reel cover back on, crank the reel til the button pops and then crank it down. Make sure there is tension on the line at the spool or you'll get wind knots in your spool.
