Which amp for Alpine Type R's?

I am getting 2 alpine 12 inch type r subs, would I be able to power it off 1 amp and which will be best? ?

  • Answer:

You can definitely power two subs off of one amp without any problems, you just need to make sure that your RMS power on your amp matches up with your subs. The type of amp that you will be using is called a class D (or Monoblock) amplifier. These amplifiers are made for powering subs. To choose the right amp, you want to find the RMS power rating of each of your subs. So, if each sub is 400 watts RMS, and you had two, you would need to find an amplifier that outputs 800 watts RMS. Since you'll have two subs, I recommend getting Dual Voice Coil 4-Ohm Subs, this way you can wire them down to 1-Ohm, therefore getting as much power as you can. Google "Subwoofer Wiring Diagrams". Theres a few sites that will show you exactly how to wire your subs down to 1-Ohm. The last thing you need to make sure of, is that your amplifier is capable of 1-Ohm Impedance before you wire it that way. After your speakers are wired, you will need to set your gains on your amplifier. Theres a bunch of youtube videos about this. I'm sure you've heard nothing about it, because alot of people think that you can turn the gain all the way up and have the loudest, best sound coming from your speakers. This is NOT true. Setting your gains correctly is very important, as it gives you the best sound quality. If you do not set your gains correctly, you could blow your speakers voice coils. Good luck on your system!

a class d amplifier is set up for the job of running your subs, alpine makes some good ones.you have to learn what the rms rating on this type equipment and how it works.the rms rating is the normal or continuous power an amplifier can put out and a sub woofer can handle at whatever ohms load your wiring them to run at.use (rf tech woofer wiring wizard)use this chart to wire them the right way.so say you have 2 4 ohm subs that can handle 300 rms each, you have to double this figure, you have 2 subs and find a class d amplifier that is putting out 600 rms at whatever ohms load you end up with after using the chart.and i would recommend you use www.youtube.com/car audio then whatever your interested in.a video is worth a thousand words.sonic electronix or crutchfield.com has all the amplifiers you will ever need.also ebay/car audio has many amps new and used.check it out.use (rf tech woofer wiring wizard) to wire your sub wooferds to the ohms load that safe for your amp and subs.never use peak or max ratings to match up this equipment.its the continuous power your looking for.

Alpine MRX-M1000 Wire both of your subs to 2ohm & your amp is 2ohm stable at 1000w both of your subs will get 500w. just keep this in mind, MOST subs that say they are rated at 600wrms, are usually the subs that handle 1000wrms, tested & proven. I am currently rebuilding my alpine set-up. Best of luck to you (:
