If a tourist owns a house in England, how would the tourist show that he/she will not work and live in the UK?
-
I was just wondering whether how a tourist who owns a holiday house in England could be able to show that he/she would have the funds to support themselves while in the UK. What documents would be good evidence that the tourist would not work and/or live in the UK while staying in his/her holiday house. What documents would show that the tourist could support himself while in the UK and owning a house there? I know that plenty of foreigners buy and own holiday houses/flats in England. I am only planning on going to the UK for about 3 or 4 months a year on a tourist visa and while on the visa, I would like to stay in my holiday house while in England rather than a hotel and/or bed and/or bed and breakfast.

You need a return ticket, bank statements showing you have enough funds for your stay and proof of ties at home - a letter from an employer etc. You also have to convince the Border Agency you do not intend to work, study, volunteer, look for work while in the UK. The length of your stay is determined by the immigration official who stamps your passport. It may be any time up until six months. Don't forget comprehensive health insurance, you are not entitled to any non emergency NHS treatment.

A lot will depend on what you demonstrate as your reasons for returning to another country. If you have a job, your income is from that job. If you overstay in England, you'll likely lose your job, so you have a good incentive to return. If you're retired (who else could afford to be in another country for three or four months?), you probably won't look for work in England. Bottom line- no one can *prove* you'll stay beyond your allowed time or that you'll go back home when you're supposed to. It's always an opinion based on the totality of what you demonstrate. Merely owning a home isn't an indication you'll stay to live and work. And saying you only want to stay three months is no guarantee you will go back. Go ahead and buy your holiday house. ... Good luck!!

It's nobody's business where you sleep but yours. Oil sheiks own entire shopping malls in the United Kingdom, and if anybody were to ask them the sheik's assistant would tell them to shove it and to hug themselves. Of course, that's easier when you have a private Boing 767 with a crown and a big eagle painted on its flanks parking on the terminal, but the principle is the same.

The immigration will not know you own a property - unless you tell them. They will look at you, the same way as they do all arrivals as 'visitors' - do they have a main home outside the UK - do they have a job that requires them to be in their home/resident country - do they have family and connections to cause them to return to those people - do they have a reason to return to their home - do they have a return ticket Oh, and - do they have enough money (foreign credit cards etc) to pay for their stay. if you have a high income job, that allows 3-4 months off each year, great if not, how can you repeatedly come to the UK and 'not be working' even for someone outside, while you are here... and what will you be 'touristing' while you are in the UK. The question is, what will you be doing and why do you need/want 3-4 months at a time in the UK ? and what reasons do you have to leave (apart from repeatedly demonstrating that you do leave), once you repeatedly leave, you will have built a good track record but don't be suprised if you get the odd query once in a while when you visit. Just keep comfortabley below the 50% point.
